It is with a deep appreciation of form and an insistent curiosity that Heather Lancaster examines intricate, sensitive, and lyrical animal gesture created over time, by varied degrees of specialization within different physical environments. Finely tuned body mechanics, and a range of extraordinary design adaptions are carefully considered and rendered with a delicate hand. Through Lancaster’s own evolving creative process, the figures begin with a single line and are slowly realized with subtle planar shifts and high contrast using layers of graphite, India ink, and charcoal.  Venturing beyond strict representation of her subject matter, she explores the abstract nature of lines, shapes, patterns and values in her large scale works on paper.  Lancaster’s marks and voice as a visual artist echo her admiration of the perfection attained by the marvel that is natural selection.

Heather Lancaster holds a BA in Art History and Historic Preservation from Mary Baldwin College.  She currently lives and works in Atlanta, GA.

Heather is represented by Spalding Nix Fine Art in Atlanta, Georgia and Camellia Art in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
